HOUSE OF CULTURE "HRISTO BOTEV 1884"
The first house of culture in Botevgrad, which was still called Orhanie at the time, was founded in 1884 by local teachers. It's called "Progress." Before him, with cultural and educational functions in the city, there is an educational-scientific society "Earthly Paradise", which dates back to around 1880. In 1888, the reading room ceased its activities for a short time. During 1891, young people who returned to the city, graduates of the High School in Sofia, established the activity of a reading room. In the same year, an amateur theater was launched. Until 1924, the local reading room performed various activities and changed several names: "Napredak", "Zavera-budjenje", general education association "St. Kliment Ohridski ”.
Its activists are a number of well-known names from local history. On February 3, 1924. a specially built new building was opened, and a new name was adopted - "Hristo Botev". In 1926, a cinema machine was installed, the civic choir "Rodna kitka" was created, and the symphony and brass band are already rehearsing and holding concerts. In 1934, the People's University was opened next to it, where general education lectures are held twice a week. At the end of 1960, the old building of the social home was demolished. On September 27, 1973, a new building was opened, and in 1981, the library was housed in a specially constructed building. Today, the National Reading Room "Hristo Botev 1884" is a basic and authoritative civic institution, with a leading place in the cultural life of the municipality of Botevgrad, with its recognizable contribution to preserving and supplementing the cultural and historical heritage in the municipality of Botevgrad.
A wide range of cultural, educational, informational and entertainment activities attract the population, regardless of age and social status. The scale and high level of realization of holiday events organized by the reading room are widely known and highly appreciated by the citizens. There is a rich palette group in the cultural center. Dozens of amateurs of different ages, professions and interests cross the threshold every day, participating in ensembles, and children and young people are trained in music school and children's ensembles.
Almost all genres are included: Youth Brass Band, Majorette Ensembles, City Brass Band, Mixed City Choir "Stamen Pancev", vocal group "Sing Heart", female vocal group, children's choir "Bonka Golemanova", "Drama Reading Room Theater", youth "Carnival" theater, representative dance ensemble "Botevgrad", dance ensemble "Botevgradska Mladost", children's dance ensemble "Orhanijce", children's dance ensemble "Botevgrad", various music schools for piano, guitar, accordion, wind instruments and percussion. In the 136-year history of the city's cultural center, hundreds of amateurs have left a lasting mark, playing a significant role in preserving the rich intangible cultural heritage and strong spiritual presence in its rich and diverse activities. There is a large list of activists of the reading room, their supporters, reading groups. In today's dynamic time of changes, alienation and new values, the Chitalishte remains a spiritually attractive center for people of all generations, who carry in their hearts the particles of the spirit of rebirth that the founders of the first reading room in the former Orhanija had.
