CHURCH "ST. NIKOLAJ MIRLIKIISKI ”LITAKOVO VILLAGE
The church "St. Nicholas of Myra" is located at the western end of the village of Litakovo, Botevgrad municipality. It was built in 1851. on the site of an older temple. An icon of the Holy Mother of God was found deep in the foundations during the excavation.
The icon was taken by Bishop Agapije of Vratsa, who consecrated the church only in 1862. Master Nikola from the village of Mirkovo is considered the builder of the church. During the Crimean War, the temple was used as a weapons depot. The name of the priest Hristo Dojčov (1838 - 1885) is kept in the annals of the church in bright letters. There was a teacher in the village. He was ordained a priest in 1862. He participated directly in the organization of the Revolutionary Committee of Deli Ibrahim in the village of Litakovo.
The icons were painted by Kiev masters who filled the entire wall in front of the altar. After the Liberation, a bell tower was built. The bells in it were delivered from the capital of Austria - Vienna. During the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-78, after the battle in the area of Osenov Preslap above the village, Botev's dead rebels were laid under the altar. After 1878, the skulls were taken to the churchyard and placed in the tomb, according to Christian canons, and a memorial plaque was placed on the bell tower. On September 18, 1978, it was declared a cultural monument of local significance and artistic value.
