Babičko Monastery
It is located about 10 kilometers from Pecenjevac, two kilometers southeast of the village of Babicko. The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity, and was built in the 16th century. It is a single-nave building with a semicircular altar apse, and a narthex added later. It was built of crushed stone in lime mortar, and was once covered with stone slabs. The original frescoes were painted over, only visible in the places where the lime mortar fell off. The Turkish defter from 1536 mentions the monastery together with the nearby village of Babičko. In 1926, a narthex with a six-sided dome was added on the west side of the church. In some places on the inner walls of the temple, an old fresco from the 16th century, the work of a talented unknown painter, is visible. The frescoes are similar in value to those from the monastery of St. Jovan in Jašunja. The iconostasis dates from the 19th century and has a simple construction with a woodcut. In front of the church there is a bell tower and a new residence built in 2006. A memorial fountain was erected near the monastery in honor of the fallen fighters in the wars from 1912 to 1920. In the northern part of the old konak from the 19th century, which has been demolished in the meantime, there was a teacher-theological school from 1868, one of the oldest in the Leskovac area.
